Let's be honest...do we really care what I put in this blank? We care whether I post thoughtful comments or nice art/literature. I could be a three-eyed space beast and no one would even notice. Wonder if anyone actually reads this far into a profile...kind of curious now. *watches comments*
Been getting a few questions via comments and notes about The Pursuit that I thought I'd add here to save people having to hunt down answers.
Q: So many terms! You mention spouses, mates, boy/girlfriend, partner, and some relationship combos I don't even think I understand! Explain!
A: Many animals (and people) aren't monogamous. Not all animals (or people) are heterosexual. Regardless of my personal feelings/views, I am a strong proponent of Zootopia being a place where almost anything is accepted, so long as it doesn't hurt anyone. I've mixed it up pretty good I think. We have heterosexual couples. We have homosexual couples. We have polygamous groups (ie, herds). We have asexual characters. The specific terms I use (not canon) are below:
- Spouse: Generic non-gendered term for husband/wife.
- Mate: Spouse, but in a relationship similar to a common law marriage. Basically a couple that considers themselves all but married, but never did the legal paperwork.
- Boy/girlfriend: Same as real-life terms.
- Partner: Generic non-gendered term for boy/girlfriend OR mate.
Q: What the hell is Rolen?!?!?
A: He's a bear. A big bear. More specifically, he's a sabertooth bear (or "Saberbear"). The Ursius line has managed to keep their bloodline more or less pure saberbear for 1000s of years, because they're overly proud of being really mean looking.
Q: Winter of the Bear? Waaaait a second...is this about Rolen?
A: If you've read to the end of The Pursuit, this story picks up around that time. You should know the answer. :)
Q: You mention collars once or twice in the story. Is this in the AU original Zootopia world or the movie world?
A: Movie, 100%. That doesn't mean I won't include elements of the original story.
Q: I just finished Chapter [X]. Is that all? Is it done?!?
A: No, I wouldn't do that to you (or me). It'll have a real ending. The Pursuit has 10.3 chapters in total, which includes the epilogue. When it's done, it'll be fairly obvious. I might even use the words "The End" but probably not.
Q: It's been [days/minutes/seconds] since your last post. When's the next chapter coming out?!?
A: Soon! I usually post on either Friday or Saturday to start a new chapter. Really short chapters, I'll post pretty quickly so you have all the sub-chapters within 24-48hrs. Longer chapters, I'll post a sub-chapter per day.
Q: Is the delay to the next chapter because you're falling behind? [random author] fell behind and never came back. Are you gone forever?
A: I am not George RR Martin...I actually make sure I'm ready to publish the whole thing before I start putting out pieces. The whole story is written and you're waiting on me to edit the next chapter, not write it. I always stay 1-2 chapters ahead of what's posted even on the editing side of things.
Q: How fast do you write? This is a lot of text...
A: I usually write 5-15 pages an hour early in a story and edit 2-8 an hour. In later parts of a story, writing drops to about 2-5 pages an hour, as there's more to keep in the back of my mind as I go.
Q: I noticed you're an author. Tell me what you wrote other than this!
A: My other pen name is Jim Galford. My World of Eldvar books can be found at the links at the top of this profile and on Amazon.
Q: Why don't you publish on fanfiction.net?
A: Because I'm a slacker.
Addendum: I did finally get around to doing that... Link to FF and AO3 above.
Q: How can there be [X] more chapters? We're moving along nicely to a conclusion and we're only at chapter [X]!
A: Each full chapter is a mini story arc. Some are listed below. Just because the story you see so far is moving along, doesn't mean there won't be twists and turns.
Examples:
Chapter 1: Setting introduction, relative to the movie.
Chapter 2: Expand the world and introduce this story's actual starting point.
Chapter 3: Bunnyburrow mini story arc.
Chapter 4: The Twist (tm)
